Getting ready for a date with any girl had never been a challenge. He was hot, women liked the bad-boy look, and the combo of his dark hair, green eyes, tight jeans, and leather jacket usually got him laid at the end of the evening.

But Charlie’d already seen said combo, attached to a poodle.

He decided on black slacks and a charcoal-gray long-sleeved polo shirt. He worked a blob of gel through his locks, to tame them, and threw his reflection an appreciative smirk and a wink. He looked like he put effort into his appearance, but not like he spent the day getting ready. Which he may have.

The weather tonight was perfect for his leather jacket. He grabbed it and was out the door. Without his car keys. Damn. They took a little searching, but he was still on time.

He climbed the stairs to her front door, feeling the tug of destiny with every step. His whole life was preparation to woo this woman. Well, no. That was too dramatic, let alone a lie, but it made for a great line; Blaze could think it in Book Three, when he came to terms with his feelings for Charisma.

Dean stood on the doormat and rang the doorbell.

Shit. He forgot to buy Charlie flowers.

Could he run now?

The door opened, and Dean was in trouble. Not ’cause of the flowers—screw the flowers. It was because seeing Charlie made him realize he’d never ever be over her. Until now, he’d been attracted to her shiny, wide-eyed beauty. Even in her short black dress, she didn’t scream wet dream, like she did in the skintight red leather pants and black leather bustier she wore tonight. Dean’s gaze was drawn to the bust line right after hello, and that caused his blood to flow in the opposite direction than it should be going if he was to say anything intelligent.

He snapped his gaping mouth shut and composed himself. “I shouldn’t have worn dress pants, huh?”

She checked out his slacks and arched an eyebrow. “At least I can see you like my outfit.” She looked back up into his eyes with a cheeky grin, and he felt his face burn.

He didn’t need to follow her gaze, to know what she meant. What the fuck was the matter with him? He didn’t blush or get hard-ons like a high-school kid. He was suave and smooth… and he should have worn underwear. These pants were much less concealing than jeans.

“What I meant was I should have worn something harder.” His pulse buzzed in his ears. Could he make this any worse? “Something meaner. Badder. To go better with all that leather.”

She was grinning.

Maybe he didn’t have to be tough as nails with her. He gave her his best puppy-eyed look and asked, “Can we stop by my place on our way?”

“Sure.” She joined him outside, locked up, and hooked her arm through his.

He led her to the car and opened the door so she could fold herself into the passenger seat.
